On Tuesday, 6th December 2022, a pub in Cape Town was heavily criticized by the South African government after allegedly refusing entry to a black individual unless he was escorted by a Caucasian person.
Outrage After Pub In South Africa Bans Black Man From Entering Without A White Person With Them-‘You Don’t Have The Right To Discriminate’
The state called upon law enforcement to investigate the abhorrent and discriminatory event with haste, which reportedly saw 25-year-old Thabiso Danca refused entry to Hank’s Olde Irish pub in Cape Town.
Even after Nelson Mandela assumed leadership of the country and promised to bring about harmony between racial groups after the end of the apartheid regime, South Africa still remains significantly segregated along racial lines.
Phumla Williams, who happens to a spokesperson from the cabinet, had this to say: “It is horrifying and outrageous that the tendencies of apartheid South Africa keeps rearing its ugly head.”
Last week, when the incident occurred, a video was shared extensively on the internet that depicted Christopher Logan, a Caucasian and a companion of Danca, in a dispute with an apparent administrator at the pub.
Logan stated that Danca had attempted to join his friends in the pub during their outing in the touristy city, however, the bouncer denied him entry on the grounds that only people of color could get in if they were accompanied by a Caucasian.
Logan could be heard saying the following: “You don’t have the right to discriminate in this country, it’s a crime. You don’t have the right to discriminate in this country, it’s a crime.”
Once the dust had settled down, Danca had a few choice words to say about the matter. And he let everybody know in no uncertain terms that this sort of behaviour was not acceptable. And in the process of doing so, he admitted that he had become overwhelmed by it all.
His following comments confirmed as much: “I was still in shock and felt humiliated because I was barred from entering the place in front of a crowd.”
