A teacher has disclosed that she asks her pupils about their preferred pronouns through a survey and would not inform their parents about this.
Teacher Asks Students Their Preferred Pronouns Through A Survey Without Consulting Parents
At the start of the school year, Mandi Jung, an instructor at Highland Park Middle School in Saint Paul, Minnesota, posted the curriculum – which includes the thought-provoking questionnaire – on her website.
This questionnaire inquires about which pronoun and name the student would like to be addressed by and if it is to be used when communicating with their parents. The survey proposes that the students’ favored pronouns and titles should be kept concealed from their guardians.
And yet, any surveys done without the authorisation of a parent may be in breach of federal legislation. Kimberly S. Hermann, who happens to be a legal expert, had this to say: “Surveys like this one not only violate the law, but they are aimed at separating children from their parents.
“Parents must know that when schools ask children about their emotional health, sexual identity, and family relationships without parental consent they violate federal law.” Despite this being the case, the issue of pronouns has been a topic that has garnered much attention.
A school board in Northern Virginia has concluded that all educators must take part in a training program which declares that pupils – even those in preschool – are able to request to be known by alternate names or pronouns without needing the approval of their parents.
Not only that, but Fairfax County Public Schools began a new program called ‘Supporting Gender Expansive and Transgender Youth’, which has been controversial due to its policies connected to teaching critical race theory.
The training program outlines what types of requests students can make without needing the permission of their parents. This is a topic that is bound to cause controversy which is why it would make sense to have parents involved.
