Following the Uvalde, Texas school-shooting, in which 19 children and two teachers were killed, Matthew McConaughey, is talking about taking his children to view one of the victims.

McConaughey, for his part, is married to Camila Alves. They have three children together, which is why the deaths resonated even more with them.  McConaughey and Alves developed lasting connections with the affected families during their time in Uvalde.

As a result, McConaughey went to visit the family of the deceased after having been invited to do so. In his comments, he said: “The family asked if we wanted to bring our kids. My thought was … Are you ready to look life in the eye and understand that death is part of it?’

“Well, I don’t want my children seeing that in a movie or a comic book. I asked each one of them if they wanted to, and they said yes.” That was not an easy thing to do which is why the actor had to prepare his children for what they were going to see.

Matthew admitted that he had a very frank discussion with his children, as they touched upon the value of life. In addition, he was hoping to teach his children the importance of gratitude, as who knows when a person’s life could flip 360 degrees.

His following comments confirmed as much: “As a father, what do I hope they get out of it? Respect, more respect for their own life. More thanks and gratitude.” The response on social media was mixed. A certain subset of people praised Matthew for instilling these values of gratitude in his children.

Meanwhile, others felt that it was not a good idea to expose his children to this. One person wrote: “McConaughey is a good person,” while another person stated: “Let the kids be! They have enough time to see the horrors of the life, or may be there will not be such tings again so …let them be.”
