‘Dancing with the Stars’ professional Cheryl Burke has revealed that she did suffer abuse at the hands of a previous relationship.

The star’s comments arrived in response to her relationship that she went through in her high school. During the course of that process, Cheryl ended up in a four-year relationship that turned out to be violent. And that experience has continued to stay with her to this day.
In her comments on the ‘Red Table Talk,’ she said: “In high school, I’ll never forget, the person I was with on and off for about four years whipped me with a belt. And I had bruises all over my legs.”
This was problematic in more ways than one. Not only did it affect Cheryl mentally, but those around the man did nothing to stop it. In fact, his parents went on to endorse the actions by virtue of the fact that they stood by and did nothing to intervene.
The implication is that they either were afraid or on board with the conduct. Cheryl’s following comments confirmed as much: “I remember his parents were watching it. Didn’t do anything. And it wasn’t like he was hitting me. He was whipping me.”
This is not the only instance that Cheryl has detailed abuse she has suffered. She has previously spoken about how she had a tendency to only attract toxic men. While that may have been the case, her relationship with her ex Matthew Lawrence did buck that trend.
And yet, her interactions with people were no doubt impacted by how she had been sexually abused as a child, as well as having lost her virginity when she was just 13. The fans on social media were horrified by this disclosure.
