Brendan Fraser Leaves The Door Open For A Return To The Mummy Franchise

Brendan Fraser, the star of the Mummy franchise, has not ruled out a return.

The actor has become synonymous with the role, having appeared in three films. While that may have been the case, he was not considered for the latest one as Tom Cruise appeared in the reboot. That film did not go down very well, as the box-office figures took a beating.

This may primarily have been due to the fact that Brendan had made the role his own, even if the storyline was also criticised. With that being said, Brendan gave his take on why the movie failed to deliver.

In his comments, he said: “The ingredient that we had going for our ‘Mummy,’ which I didn’t see in the new one, was fun. That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. ‘The Mummy’ should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.”

As a result, Fraser has opened the door for a potential return should there be a discussion for another Mummy movie. The actor is 53-years-old, which would showcase him in another light. And yet, provided that certain stipulations are met, Fraser is keen to get on board.

But rather than share any explicit details, he felt the storyline had to be right. His following comments confirmed as much: “I don’t know how it would work. But I’d be open to it, if someone came up with the right concept.”

The fans on social media were not too keen on the idea. A certain subset of people felt that Brendan had given everything to the story, so a sequel would only bring things downhill. One person wrote: “I love The Mummy, but this is a bad idea.  It will make ppl miss the original.”

We will have to see how this will all play out moving forward, but on balance, there is not a lot of enthusiasm. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
