Halle Bailey says that she’s honored to play Ariel as a newly released poster for the live-action of Disney’s The Little Mermaid drops. Following a teaser unveiled at Disney’s annual D23 Expo in September, Bailey has shared the movie poster, which shows her taking on the titular role of animation’s favorite mermaid. Here’s what you need to know.

Directed by Rob Marshall, The Little Mermaid also stars Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Awkwafina as Scuttle and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric. Following the film’s first look, social media went into a frenzy with negative reactions to casting a black actor in the role of a fictional character.

Halle tweeted this week, “Words can’t describe how immensely honored I feel to play the mermaid of my dreams, Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid.”

Many have stood up for Bailey, including Trevor Noah. “Really, people? We’re doing this again?” Noah asked in an episode of The Daily Show last month. “Once again, a bunch of internet racists are upset that a fictional character is being played by a Black person. Honestly, I don’t know what the big deal is.”

Many of Halle’s fans have commented on her poster with, “As a child with red hair Ariel made me feel seen in a way no Disney princess had. I hope your Ariel gives a whole new generation that same feeling,” along with, “You’re gonna be perfect i can’t wait for your performance to knock it out of the park.”

Another fan said, “I honestly can’t wait to see the remake of the #LittleMermaid its going to be so epic! @HalleBailey the new trailer for the film made me cry you are so beautiful in it.”
