Will Smith’s daughter, Willow Smith, has revealed that she turned down career opportunities as a child to avoid the pressures that came with it.
Willow Smith Recalls How She Could Have Gone Down ‘A Dark Path’ During Her Youth
Willow has been known to suffer from anxiety, something which her mother Jada Pinkett Smith has been very vocal about. This resulted in some symptoms playing out by way of nail biting and even cuticle chewing.
With that being said, Willow recognised that she had to go through a normal childhood before entering into the world of stardom. In her comments, she said: “I saw at a very young age … the dark path I could have gone down.
“I kind of caught myself before my coping mechanisms started too early. That was terrifying. Because I was like, ‘I’ve never felt this before. … This is obviously not healthy and I need to stop this before it becomes a darker place.”
Nevertheless, not everyone in the family has dealt with mental health in a positive way. Jada has admitted that she struggled to understand her daughter’s struggles with anxiety, since she grew up in an era where the scrutiny on child stars was a lot less than it is now.
Regardless of what the case may have been, mental health is clearly something that has been an issue in the family. Willow’s father, Will Smith, caused major controversy when he slapped comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada’s hair loss.
That subsequently led to concerns about Smith’s mental health after he received mass condemnation and a 10-year Oscar ban as a result. With that being said, there will be question marks over whether Will can enter back into the public fold.
