Well, at least he’s got a good sense of humor about it, right? British Royal News says that King Charles III managed to poke a little fun at his pen debacle during his first engagement following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. Here’s what you need to know.
According to new reports, Charles and Camilla carried out their first official joint engagements Monday after becoming king and queen consort. King Charles Pokes Fun At His Pen Debacle
In a speech to dignitaries, the king said: “We gather to celebrate this great occasion but also to commemorate the life of Her late Majesty, whose deep love for Scotland was one of the foundations of her life.”
Critics have pointed out the king’s short-tempered and demanding behaviour in recent weeks – on one occasion, he appeared irritated as he gestured for aides to help when a pen holder on the table got in his way; on another, a leaky pen spilt all over a visitors’ book he was signing on a visit to Hillsborough Castle.
“Oh god, I hate this [pen]!” he said, getting up as Camilla assisted him. “I can’t bear this bloody thing… every stinking time.”
While he signed a visitor’s book at a council meeting in Dunfermline on Monday, he poked fun at the mishap. A video shared on social media sees Charles hand Camilla the pen before commenting: “These things are so temperamental.”
Queen Elizabeth died on September 8th, marking Charles’ ascension to the throne. Dunfermline, chosen for its historic status and because it is one of the fastest growing towns in Europe, is one of eight places which will become cities to mark the queen’s #PlatinumJubilee – 70 years on the throne, celebrated in June, just three months before her death.
