The lead singer of the very popular rock band, Arcade Fire has found himself in some serious hot water. Butler is claiming that all of these people consented to the events that happened.

One of the accusers claimed that Butler sexually assaulted them twice in 2015 when they were 21 years old. This victim uses the pronouns they/them and considers themselves to be gender-fluid.

The other victims are three women who claim that the relationships that they had with Butler were inappropriate at the time because of how young they were and the “power dynamics” that he used with them. The women claim that this all took place between 2016 and 2020 and they were all 18 to 23 years old at the time. That would have put Butler between 36 and 39 years old.
Butler has spoken to his spokesman, along with his wife, Regine Chassagne, and he denies that he did anything wrong in these relationships. He said that all of their interactions were consensual and he was not the one to initiate any of them. Those who are accusing Butler have pointed out that during the interactions, they had to deal with unwanted touching and kissing and he took photos of their genitalia.
Butler told his fans that he had been going through some tough times during the time periods in question.
He said, “There is no easy way to say this, and the hardest thing I have ever done is having to share it with my son. The majority of these relationships were short-lived, and my wife is aware- our marriage, has, in the past, been more unconventional than some. I have connected with people in person, at shows, and through social media, and I have shared messages of which I am not proud. Most importantly, every single one of these interactions has been mutual and always between consenting adults. It is deeply revisionist, and frankly just wrong, for anyone to suggest otherwise.”
He finished by saying, “I have never touched a woman against her will, and any implication that I have is simply false. I vehemently deny any suggestion that I forced myself on a woman or demanded sexual favors. That simple, and unequivocally, never happened. While these relationships were all consensual, I am very sorry to anyone who I have hurt with my behavior. Life is filled with tremendous pain and error, and I never want to be a part of causing someone else’s pain.”
