The rapper caused mass outrage with his decision to make customers rummage through trash bags in order to find their requisite size, as opposed to the traditional way of having clothes hung up. While that may have been the case, Kanye sought to justify his conduct on the grounds that the ‘homeless’ were his source of inspiration.
But given that the homeless were unlikely to be able to spend hundreds of dollars on his clothing, the actions did look out of touch. And yet, Kanye doubled down on his beliefs that he would continue to do what is best regardless of what others had to say about it all, as he wanted to remain in control.
In an interview with Fox News, he said: “I’m not here to sit up and apologise for my ideas. That’s exactly what the media tries to do: make us apologise for any idea that doesn’t fall under exactly the way they want us to think.
“This is not a joke, this is not a game, this is not just a celebrity collaboration … this is my life.” Nevertheless, Kanye’s comments did not go down well on social media. A certain subset of people merely felt that Kanye’s comments showed just how arrogant he had become by not acknowledging his mistakes.
Meanwhile, others were put off the idea of buying his clothing and left derogatory comments. One person wrote: “Does he enjoy charging ridiculous money and getting people to sift through garbage.”
While another person stated: “Well since he looks like he gets his clothes from trash bags, I guess he wants others to share in the experience. He is a sick and pathetic excuse for a human.” It is fair to say that Kanye’s comments did not resonate with the fans.
