Jewish comedian Alex Edelman has given his take on the issue of antisemitism.

Alex, for his part, grew up in a traditional orthodox Jewish setting. So much so that following the completion of his high-school education, Alex decided to spend one year in Jerusalem in a yeshiva. A Yeshiva is simply a Jewish college that added another dimension to his education.

And yet, with that background in place, Alex did not feel that he was entirely qualified enough to speak on a matter such as this. In his comments, he said: “I don’t know, I’m not being coy, I just genuinely don’t know enough about antisemitism as a whole.

“And every time I have a presupposition about it … I’ve been wrong about it so many times that I no longer conjecture, but I’ve read, really good books about antisemitism.”

Regardless of that being the case, Alex recognised antisemitism is a problem. However, the star did not go as far as to state whether or not he had actually been a victim of this. Not only that, but it was also not clear if he had known those that had to suffer the brunt of this.

Although that may have been the case, he recognised that it is a problem that needed to be addressed. But as to what course of action should be taken, that remained unclear.

Alex’s following comments confirmed as much: “So, I’m not quite sure what to think, but yeah, antisemitism is obviously a scourge and it occurs in all parts of our society. And, it’s a shame.”

In reality, there will always be those looking to create hostility along different fault lines. Whether that be antisemitism, Islamaphobia, or anything else for that matter. But Alex’s comments show that these problems do exist and need addressing one way or another.

And that is the most important thing. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. If you liked reading this article, then check out our other features on the Daily Soap Dish.
