Musician John Driskell Hopkins, from the Zac Brown Band, has confirmed that he has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

ALS is a condition that affects the nervous system to the point where it leads to the nerve and spinal functions of the body losing control over its muscles. And given that coordination is essential in playing musical instruments, John’s future in the band has now been called into question.

And that has been something very difficult for him to come to terms with. In a post on the band’s Twitter, John was seen standing in the vicinity of his band mates. He is then heard saying the following: “Over the past several years, I’ve noticed some balance issues and some stiffness in my hands.

“After careful analysis by some of the country’s top neurologists, I have been diagnosed with ALS.” It is not exactly clear how long this will keep John out of action for, but one thing for sure is that he is looking to bounce back as quick as possible.

Although that may be the case, the very fact of the matter is that this is going to be more difficult than first thought. As of now, there is no cure for such a condition, but that has not prevented John from doing everything in his power.

He added: “Because my symptoms have been slow progressing from the start, we believe they will continue to be slow progressing going forward. God willing, I plan to be rocking with these amazing people for many years to come.”

The fans on social media were understandably concerned. And people wished John the best in the hope that he could recover and get back to his usual self. One person wrote: “Sad news, love the band, please keep rocking.”

With such a loyal fan base, John’s supporters will be there to support him every step of the way to make sure that he remains in a positive mindset. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
