There are many moments in life that make some people step back and take a deep breath and be grateful for their life’s path. One of these is Kristin Chenoweth. The 53-year-old actress is now part of the new Hulu series, Keeper of the Ashes: The Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders. In this series, we will learn more about what happened on a camping trip that she was actually supposed to go on.

    Chenoweth Speaks Out

Kristin says in the trailer, “This is a story I wish I never had to tell. It haunts me every day. But this story, it needs to be told.” This is a four-part series that will premiere on May 24 on Hulu. It will focus on the killings of Lori Lee Farmer, Michelle Heather Guse, and Doris Denise Milner.

This happened on a Girl Scout trip in 1977. A local jailbreaker, Gene Leroy Hart was arrested for the crime, but then, he was acquitted. Now that  DNA evidence is easier to figure out, there is more evidence that points out that he could have been involved.

Chenoweth added, “I remember I should have been on that trip, but I had gotten sick, and mom said, ‘You can’t go.’ It stuck with me my whole life. I could have been one of them.” This series will also feature interviews with a camp counselor, the sheriff who responded to the case, and Hart’s counsel.

There are also interviews with the victims’ families. Chenoweth adds, “When I think of those three girls, I wonder what’s the best way to honor them. That’s why I’d come back home, to find answers once and for all.”

Just last week, the Mayes County Sheriff, Mike Reed, released the DNA results at the request of the families. Most of the results were inconclusive, but most of the results do point to Hart. He died in prison in 1979 while he was serving time for another crime that was not related to the murders.

Reed added, “Unless something new comes up, something brought to light we are not aware of, I am convinced where I’m sitting of Hart’s guilt and involvement in this case.”

This case has been one that has gained a lot of popularity in the world of true crime and it is a pretty tragic loss of these lives, but we are happy that there are new leads in what really happened.

Keeper of the Ashes: The Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders premieres on May 24 on Hulu.
