The network had decided to take decisive action and remove Gina after she had made a series of controversial tweets, which received a significant amount of backlash. The tweets had allegedly made a comparison between American politics and the division taking place by referencing it towards Nazi Germany.
And given that Gina did not apparently apologise for her tweets, there was a feeling that she continued to stand by those words. So much so that she had openly told commentator Ben Shapiro that she had no interest in “going along with the narrative.”
With that being said, Bill was disturbed by the fact that freedom of speech could now result in a situation where people could lose their livelihoods over what they say.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bill said: “They [liberals] just use outrage because they don’t like your politics…That somebody’s opinion – or their political beliefs – makes people try to destroy their ability to make a living, it’s f—ing bizarre to me.”
And as part of Bill’s disdain for what had happened to Gina, the comedian decided to call out the concept of cancel culture. He expanded on how people who had committed far worse crimes, that being those in jail, got off more lightly.
This was in comparison to someone, who may have made a statement on social media years ago, which is then used against them. And that is something he could not get his head around.
His following comment confirmed as much: “Sounds like this is a pretty good person if you had to go back eight f—ing years [on someone’s Twitter to find something].
“Meanwhile, there are people who get paroled from prison every day who have done so much worse and they’re allowed to put their lives back together.” Bill clearly has a point, but with the way that cancel culture is operating now, things do not look like they will change anytime soon.
