Ke Huy Quan has opened up on why he decided to walk away from the acting industry for 20 years.

Former Indiana Jones Star Ke Huy Quan Recalls Leaving The Acting Industry For Two Decades-‘It Was Tough’

Ke, for his part, Is most famously known for appearing in ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ as Indiana’s sidekick Short Round. At the age of 12-years-old, he made the decision to audition for the movie which then changed his life forever.

He became part of cinematic history, as the Indiana Jones movies are a part and parcel of many generations. Things just so happened to occur quickly, as just a few years prior, Ke had arrived in the states with his family from Vietnam.

But when a casting director had overheard Ke rehearsing some lines, he was recommended for the audition and the rest was history. In an interview with People magazine, Ke revealed how his life turned 360 degrees.

He said: “Never in my wildest imagination did I think I would end up being an actor. But I fell in love with it. That movie changed my life and my entire family’s life.”

The road to stardom was not easy, though. After making another appearance in a big movie entitled “The Goonies,” Ke was not being offered the blockbuster movies that he was hoping for.

Instead, the actor was being recommended stereotypical roles that were traditionally associated with an Asian actor. And that ultimately led him to falling out of love with the acting profession for around two decades. He added: “It was tough. I was waiting for the phone to ring, and it rarely did.”

But as time passed, Ke’s desire for the acting was rekindled when he watched ‘Crazy Rich Asians.’ And that led him to move away from working behind the scenes in order to get back on the frontline. His following comments confirmed as much: “I wanted to be up there with my fellow Asian actors!”

Regardless of what Ke does, his character of Short Round will stay long in the memory. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
