Someone needs to flag the Russian Embassy in London’s Twitter account as “comedic” because clearly each tweet they post comes off as a joke. There’s a new report that says whoever is behind the Twitter account over at the Russian Embassy in the UK believes that a crisis actor was used to stage photos at a maternity hospital after it was attacked by Russian forces.
It turns out that the woman in the photos is actually a beauty blogger and that she has also given birth to her baby, too. Here’s what you need to know.
Russian Embassy Claims Crisis Actor Staged Maternity Hospital Attack Photos In Mariupol
Marianna Podgurskaya was one of the women at the hospital waiting to give birth and was pictured heavily pregnant with injuries to her face as she walked down a staircase in teddy bear pajamas, clutching bags of her possessions.
Yet, the Kremlin’s embassy in London first stamped a giant “FAKE” over tweeted photos of Wednesday’s atrocity in Mariupol, insisting the hospital only housed neo-Nazi radicals.
When commentators pointed to photos of a heavily pregnant woman fleeing with blood dripping from her face, the embassy claimed it was just “some very realistic make-up.”
If that weren’t enough, the embassy went on to say: “It’s the indeed pregnant [Ukraine] beauty blogger Marianna Podgurskaya. She actually played roles of both pregnant women in the photos.” That, and the embassy says that the photos were taken by a “famous propagandist photographer” — naming an award-winning war photographer covering the invasion for the Associated Press.
However, journalist Olga Tokariuk said she has spoken to Podgurskaya’s relatives who confirmed she gave birth to a baby girl on Thursday night. She tweeted: “I received an update from a relative of Marianna – a pregnant girl from Mariupol’s bombed hospital. They were able to reach her on the phone briefly. Last night at 10pm, Marianna gave birth to a baby girl! They are ok, but it’s very cold in Mariupol and the bombing doesn’t stop.”
