It’s going to cost them a pretty penny to stay safe, should they want to visit the U.K. with their children anytime soon. There’s one report that suggests Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might spend a six-figure amount out of pocket for their own security if they want to fly back to London with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. Here’s what you need to know.

It was reported earlier this month that Harry’s legal team said they had initiated the legal challenge in September of last year but decided to make that information public now “in order to set the facts straight.”

Harry says that he wants to bring his kids to visit from California, but he and his family are “unable to return to his home” because it is too dangerous, a legal representative said in a statement Saturday.

Harry’s privately funded US security team “cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed” while they visit the UK, the representative added.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex personally fund a private security team for their family, yet that security cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed whilst in the U.K.,” the statement said. And now one royal expert by the name of Richard Aitch said that this is going to be a costly decision for the Sussexes.

“It’s very difficult to put a figure exactly on it,” the director of operations for Mobius International Security said, according to Us Weekly. “The cost for a personal protection officer from the [Metropolitan Police] has been estimated to be around £100,000 a year.”

The security expert noted that the cost could “considerably” fluctuate “over time” with the addition of other expenses. “What may appear as a wish on paper is far more in reality, and the costs can certainly be quite huge,” Aitch added. So far the Sussexes have made no further comments about the matter.
