The Duggars wanted to reach out to their fans about what happened and how they ended up being in the plane crash. They told fans, “An emergency landing or any kind of plane crash is a scary thing, but it’s exactly what pilots are trained for. We are so thankful for God’s protection, as we all walked away without injuries when this happened last October. We so appreciate the love and care so many have expressed towards us!”

The crash happened on October 29, 2021 and they were in a Piper PA-30 plane. The reports that were filed claimed that the 6-seater plane was only being used by Abbie, John David, and their small daughter. The plane had “substantial” damage and many think that it is completely ruined and can never be repaired. The plane did not catch on fire or explode, but the damage was pretty bad.
The crash report states, “the NTSB did not travel to the scene of this accident to investigate the crash. There were multiple reports that the crash was the result of engine failure.” John David used this plane to help with his nonprofit, MEDIC Corps. His organization delivers help to those who have been affected by natural disasters.
Both Abbie and John love to fly and they both have flying licenses. They even announced that they were having their first child while they were flying a plane! They feel that this is one of the many similarities that has brought them closer together.
