Bachelor in Paradise alums and fan favorites Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian made history this past summer when they became the first black couple in Bachelor Nation history to get engaged.
But it’s all over now.
The pair sparked rumors of a split a week or so ago when their joint Cameo account became temporarily unavailable and coupled-up pics began to disappear from each other’s social. A video showing Maurissa sans engagement ring was he final straw for fans.
It turns out the rumor mill was correct and the two had split in early January.

“We have decided to go our separate ways. Never did we imagine this, but we’ve come to a point where we both need to work on ourselves,” 25 year old Maurissa and 32 year old Riley said in a joint statement to PEOPLE magazine. “We’ve appreciated everyone’s love and support so far throughout our journey and we just ask that you please respect our privacy as we navigate through this.”
Maurissa and Riley were one of three couples to leave Paradise engaged at the end of season seven of the popular Bachelor spin-off, Bachelor in Paradise.
While the exes did not give a definitive reason behind the split, both have been leaving pretty passive aggressive tweets and Instas with Riley’s social media posts pointing out the importance of looking after your mental health and Maurissa’s mentioning that sometime you need to see a person for who they are and not their potential.
Ouch.
Joe Amabile & Serena Pitt as well as Kenny Braasch & Mari Pepin, the other two couples to get engaged on the Mexican beach are still going strong, as are couples Noah Erb & Abigail Heringer and Becca Kufrin & Thomas Jacobs who split before the end of Paradise but have reunited since.
I guess we could still call the past season a win!
