Back in 2021, when Demi Lovato released their documentary “Dancing with the Devil” they made a controversial statement that made a lot of people angry saying that they were “California Sober” meaning they only abstained from hard drugs but didn’t turn down the occasional weed or sip of red wine.

Apparently there were also rumors that they did psychodelics as well because they had a “shroom room”. They decided not to share any more of their sobriety journey in the documentary simply because of the backlash they received, but on Dec. 2nd released a statement to instagram saying, “I no longer support my California Sober ways. Sober sober is the only way to be.”

Demi Lovato is no longer “California Sober”

Fans all breathed a sigh of relief at that point because anyone who has studied addiction knows that addiction is a lack of ability to control yourself and what the fans were afraid of is Demi relapsing into their old ways.

Fans were afraid of Demi biting off more than they could chew and it looks like she may just have with the California Sober declaration in the past… only now they have an entire documentary chapter and a song to remind them of this, not to mention a whole bunch of fans, when they’re having a particularly bad day.

Honestly, we’re hoping that the fans don’t judge them too harshly… recovery journeys can change over time and it looks like theirs has.

It seems Demi’s social media engagement has actually gone down since she shared her sobriety journey and gotten backlash from it, she said she wouldn’t be sharing any more of her journey, but it looks like that just applied to filming the documentary because she still posts regular social media updates about things related to sobriety so the backlash just ensured that we wouldn’t get another documentary episode… woops.

It seems that a month after they were out spotted partying with Tana Mongeau in October, 2021, Demi entered rehab again, and we can only hope for their sake that it’s going well for them. We want Demi to have the best life that she can. Stay tuned!!!
