If there’s anyone who knows how it feels to be in his shoes, it’s most definitely the future king of England, Prince William. The Duke of Cambridge consoled a young boy who lost his mother last year by telling him that things will get easier.

William lost his own mother when Princess Diana died in a car crash back in 1997 when the prince was just 15 years old. Here’s what you need to know.

Both William and his wife Kate Middleton spent about 15 minutes talking to the Deacon and his great-grandmother, Carole Ellis, during a visit to Church on the Street in Burnley, Lancashire, a center that helps people struggling with poverty, homelessness, addiction or other problems.

William chatted to the 11-year-old about football, but the youngster, who was wearing a Burnley shirt, seemed unimpressed at first.

“He thought it was a footballer coming here so he was gutted when he found out it was William and Kate,” one volunteer at the center said.

Meanwhile, and back in December, William revealed that an old Tina Turner song gives him the sads. And that’s not because he misses the 1980’s, but because it reminds him of his late mother, Princess Diana.

William says that Princess Diana used to sing a Tina Turner song “at the top of her voice” whenever she drove her two sons, William and Prince Harry, to school. The Duke of Cambridge shared the poignant “family moment” in an audio walking tour recorded for Apple, and described how Diana, Princess of Wales took him to a homeless shelter to teach him the important lesson – there is life outside palace walls.

William said he still “secretly” likes the Tina Turner song The Best, because it was one of his mother’s favorite songs.

The duke said: “Because sitting in the backseat singing away, it felt like a real family moment. My mother, she’d be driving along singing at the top of her voice and we’d even get the policeman in the car, he’d be occasionally singing along as well.”
