John Ondrasik, best known for being the singer of ‘Five For Fighting’ has spoken on the role of cancel culture in light of his latest song “Blood On My Hands.”

John stoked the flames of discontent when he decided to release a music video to that song, which expressed mass condemnation over the decision by the United States to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.

Such a song became even more relevant to the political discourse, given the fact that the Taliban has now taken over the country.

And as part of his music video, John did not hold back by showing the graphic nature of the conflict through his images. And yet, having received backlash for doing so, it merely reinforced what John was already feeling.

In an interview with Fox News, he said: “To leave out images of the atrocities of the Taliban would have done an injustice to the victims, and would not have been an accurate representation of the ongoing reality.”

Not everybody was behind the message, though. And this included none other than YouTube. The company had decided to remove John’s video on the grounds that it had violated its community guidelines.

However, after having reviewed the situation, they had a change of heart as his video was then reinstated. And he felt that such a policy was very dangerous, as it would only go on to hinder the right to freedom of speech.

He added: “I find little credence that these actions by Big Tech have no component of internal political bias, as they tend to only censor views critical of one side. I can’t think of anything more dangerous for our nation.”

This could not be more true today by virtue of the fact that we do have a cancel culture. And this is preventing people from expressing their views for fear that their careers could be over.

And sadly, for John, the majority of artists do feel this way. He continued: “It is depressing that with the tribal nature of our culture that there are virtually no songwriters, actors, celebrities speaking out.”
