Actor Javier Bardem has given his take on the allegations being directed towards director Woody Allen by his daughter Dylan Farrow over sexual abuse.
Javier Bardem Gives His Take On Woody Allen’s Abuse Allegations-‘It’s Just Gossip’
The allegations were first reportedly made in 1992, when Dylan had claimed that her father had abused her when she was just a child, specifically at the age of 7.
Woody denied doing anything of the sort, and was subsequently cleared following two investigations. But given the rise of cancel culture, this has now come back to the fore. And yet, for Javier, he believes that the justice system should be respected.
In an interview with The Guardian, Javier said: “Pointing fingers at someone is very dangerous if it hasn’t been legally proven. Beyond that, it’s just gossip.”
Javier is very well acquainted with Woody, given the fact that they had worked together on the film ‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’ (2008). And during the course of that interaction, Javier did not see anything untoward.
However, that does not mean that there was not any controversy involved from any other members on the set. His co-star on the film at the time Rebecca Hall would go on to express regret as a result of her experience in working with Woody.
Rebecca felt that by working with him, she had inadvertently diminished the claims that were being put forward by Dylan.
These comments were very significant, especially since this movie was the first big break that Rebecca had received which had gone on to propel her career.
In addition, she was initially grateful towards Woody but that clearly all changed when these allegations had subsequently come to light.
But for Javier, he remained coy on what Rebecca had to say: “To tell you the truth, I don’t follow any of that, what people said.
“I try to go where logic dictates, which is: Let’s follow the rules that exist to establish whether someone is guilty or innocent.”
These allegations ultimately ended up tarnishing Woody’s legacy with many people now not wanting to work with the director. And this is something that Woody will have to contend with throughout his career.
