In the wake of the shooting tragedy on the set of Rust, speculation, fueled by Alec Baldwin’s comments, have been flooding the internet about what could’ve happened versus what did happen.

Over the last month, we’ve heard various reasons from Alec about how it wasn’t his fault. His latest is an interview with George Stephanopoulos where he claimed he didn’t pull the trigger.

This is the latest chapter in the gun rights argument that’s been going on for decades, with Alec now being in the center of the discussion as his viewpoints are well known.

It can be argued that Alec is arguing for his freedom by painting himself as much a victim as cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who died as a result of being shot on the set of Rust.

While his arguments may make sense for those that have limited knowledge of firearms and the process of safety checks on a film set (like dry firing the weapon after the actor inspects it to ensure it’s not loaded), others have called out the problems with this line of thought.

George Clooney has spoken about the safety checks he’s been a part of whenever he’s handled a gun on set, but John Schneider has done that and put out Youtube videos describing the procedure in detail.

    Demonstrating The Reality

There’s no arguing with the physical evidence, and John breaks it down in the above video, demonstrating how it is impossible for the handgun to have gone off on its own.

Guns are, in fact, a tool that needs someone to fire them.

Still, there is the possibility that there’s an issue with the gun Alec used and that’ll hopefully be identified during the forensic testing.

As it stands, it appears Schneider destroyed Alec’s argument through a physical walk-through of using the type of revolver in question as well as his earlier explanation of the safety procedures for handling a gun on a movie set that would’ve prevented an accident.

John consistently gives well-thought-out explanations and demonstrations on how and why something works or doesn’t work.

He’s serving as a logical balance to what Alec has been saying as his account has changed multiple times over the last few weeks.

In the end, we’ll have to wait for the investigation to see where takes us before forming our own opinions, but it’s good to see other actors stepping forward to talk about what is supposed to happen on a set.

We hope the end of this brings the real victims of the incident and their families some peace.

What does John’s video mean for Alec and his supporters? Let us know in the comments below.
