Hollywood actress Salma Hayek has spoken on how her interactions with Harvey Weinstein on the 2002 film entitled ‘Frida‘ have stayed with her until this day.

The movie producer, who has since then been convicted of sex crimes, was known for being a very powerful figure within the Hollywood industry.

While many victims refused to come forward in the past, the rise of things such as the #MetooMovement has made it easier for people to do so.

Much in the same way, Salma did not hold back on the horror that she went through. During an interview with The Guardian, Salma spoke on how she was humiliated over her appearance in front of the whole set.

She said: “He would call me up and scream, ‘Why do you have a (unibrow) and moustache? I didn’t hire you to look ugly!'”… I was like, ‘But didn’t you ever look at a picture of Frida Kahlo?'”

Given that Salma has been in the public eye for so long, coupled with the fact that her profession involves being able to put on a persona for others, these comments really hurt her confidence.

Naturally, it started to have a physical and mental impact on her well-being. As a consequence, there were worries over whether she would be able to continue doing her acting profession.

She added: “I would shake [afterwards], and it did depress me, but there was a cartoon aspect about the whole thing.”

Nevertheless, this experience showed her that she had what it took to be able to overcome anything. And given that Harvey has now been caught out, it has given the confidence to other women to be able to feel secure that if they had such an issue, they would be able to come forward.

By setting an example, Salma is showing everyone that it is possible to have a career without external pressures being thrust upon people, which has resulted in catastrophic consequences of anxiety and death within the showbiz industry.

She continued: “I’m a force to be recognized. He never saw me weak. It’s not that I’m not afraid, but you’re not going to see it. I can be almost intimidating in my calm strength, you know?”
