Republican Winsome Sears was elected as Virginia’s new lieutenant governor on Tuesday, becoming the first woman of color to serve in the position. She addressed to her supporters that she was at a loss for words for the first time in her life and this was the American dream.
Sears, a U.S. Marine veteran previously served in Virginia’s House of Delegates and was the first black Republican woman, first female veteran first ‘legal immigrant’ woman elected to that position according to her campaign website.
She was originally born in Jamaica and moved to the United States when she was just 6-years-old. Now though, folks like Jemele Hill are claiming ‘white supremacy’ following Sears’ victory. No, I’m not kidding. In a Twitter post, Hill wrote it wasn’t about the messaging but the country (United States) loves white supremacy.
It’s not the messaging, folks. This country simply loves white supremacy.

Jemele Hill Claims ‘White Supremacy’ Following Winsome Sears Lt. Governor Win In Virginia
Winsome Sears replied to Hill’s tweet herself, saying simply, “we beg to differ.”

This also led to people responding in the comments defending Sears and combatting Hill’s message. I have to agree with many of them. I don’t understand how electing a black, female, veteran is white supremacy? I suppose it’s because she’s not on the Democratic team so she’s automatically racist?
A veteran wrote how this was one of his favorite posts of all-time, “As an old “White Guy” veteran – this is one of my favorite posts of all time. Thank God for Winsome Sears and her family. Congratulations on win – go get ’em!” A fellow veteran responded as well, “as a Brown, Immigrant USMC Veteran this just makes me Giddy with joy watching her win.”
This hasn’t stopped Jemele Hill from posting and commenting on other posts about Sears. She continues to retweet and quote others about Sears and her win with things like, “Oh, it’s the statements, not the actual function of white supremacist. Got it.”
What do you think? Do you believe the United States is a white supremacist country and what’s your opinion on Sears’ victory? Let us know in the comments below.
