There’s a new report that says the camera crew of Alec Baldwin’s latest movie, “Rust” walked off the set in protest of the working conditions before a fatal shooting occurred. On Thursday it was reported that Baldwin reportedly discharged a prop gun that killed a cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and wounded the film’s director, Joel Souza. Here’s what you need to know.
According to the Los Angeles Times, camera operators and their assistants were frustrated by the conditions surrounding the low-budget film, including complaints of long hours. Things got so bad that the camera crew showed up for work as expected at 6:30 a.m. Thursday and began gathering up their gear and personal belongings to leave.

If that weren’t enough, members of the production said they had been promised the production would pay for their hotel rooms in Santa Fe. When they turned up to set to clear their things on Thursday, they found they’d been replaced by locals. One text message that was circulating on social media, shared repeatedly by union members, refers to a ‘walk out’ by staff the day before the tragedy.
A prop gun that was discharged by Baldwin shot and killed the cinematographer on the set. Halyna Hutchins died from her injuries at a nearby Sante Fe, New Mexico hospital, where the movie is being filmed.
Meanwhile, the Hollywood actor took to his Twitter account on Friday to write, “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.”
Baldwin added, “I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
