Neil deGrasse Tyson is a nice guy, and it shows as he talks about Demi Lovato and her comments about the term ‘Aliens’ being derogatory. He thought about it and tried to wander through the statement without being rude, but it basically amounted to Lovato needing a reality check.
Tyson seemed as confused as everyone else after Demi’s comments about calling ‘aliens’ just ‘ETs’ now because it’s less offensive. Tyson explains several reasons why it’s silly and she would assume that aliens care or that they would understand English in the first place.
Neil deGrasse Tyson Thinks Demi Lovato Needs A Reality Check After Her Thinking ‘Aliens’ Is Offensive
If you missed it, Demi made their thoughts known during an interview promoting their new Peacock special called ‘Unidentified’ … saying,
“I think that we have to stop calling them aliens because aliens is a derogatory term for anything.”
Demi has been doing and saying questionable things over the last year or so, to say the least, but this one may be the most whacky. To even think that an alien would care about what our words meant and that our term for them is somehow derogatory is on a whole new level.
While Neil admits that Demi is being considerate, he’s totally missing her point and for once, we’re all as smart as an astrophysicist. It’ll be interesting to see how Demi continues on with her ‘Unidentified’ show and if they change their mind about ‘alien’ being derogatory.
