Demi Lovato is standing up for the rights of…extraterrestrials?
The singer/actress has said referring to extraterrestrials as “aliens” is derogatory and believes the word should no longer be used when referring to those who hail from other planets.
Lovato’s docuseries on streaming platform, Peacock titled “Unidentified with Demi Lovato” sees the performer- who goes by the pronouns of them/they- ponder what life might be “out there”, beyond our galaxy. Demi is joined by their bestie, Matthew, and sister, Dallas, and, throughout the docuseries the trio “search for the truth about the UFO phenomena.”
Seemingly highly passionate about our other worldly neighbors, Demi opened up to ‘Pedestrian’ explaining they have been a believer for their whole life and why the surprise docuseries is so important to them.
Demi Lovato Says Calling Extraterrestrials ‘Aliens’ Is Offensive
“I just thought, I’m in a position in my career right now where I’m dipping my toes into a lot of different waters. And this was just kind of a natural next step,” they explained. “I wanted to film everything that goes down when I go and search for these UFOs so that my fans can come along for the ride.”
Lovato, who is certain of the existence of aliens…sorry, extraterrestrials, doesn’t believe that E.T.s want to invade or harm humans as so often depicted in Hollywood. That is, of course, if we quit offending them with our derogatory terminology to describe these out of this world beings- specifically the word ‘alien’.
“I think that we have to stop calling them ‘aliens’,” Lovato explained, “because ‘aliens’ is a derogatory term. That’s why I like to call them E.T.s!” Lovato is referring to the fact the word ‘alien’ being used in reference immigrants or foreign visitors is now considered as dehumanizing by immigration advocates. But, in a move that shocks no one, they are taking it a step further.
So…yeah.
Of course, Demi’s outspokenness for the rights of E.T,’s is being widely panned as a ridiculous and unnecessary fight, but then, isn’t that Demi’s schtick? It wasn’t long ago that she was coming for a fro-yo shop for offering sugar fee products, saying The Bigg Chill yoghurt shop was a “diet culture vulture” and their ‘diet products’ were triggering for someone with an eating disorder. Unfortunately for Demi, they forgot about people with dietary restrictions, like diabetics, who were triggered by Demi being…insufferable.
Soooooo…yeah.
Until Scully and Mulder weigh in, I don’t think I will worry too much about offending our friends from beyond the stars…and hope not to become a cautionary tale.
