Apparently it takes more than burning a candle that smells like Gwyneth Paltrow’s vagina for many women to ‘get in the mood’. That’s why Gwenyth’s company Goop is now peddling female libido boosters going by the apt acronym D.T.F.
The supplement supports sexual health and addresses “some of those common physiological roadblocks to desire”, according to the claims on the Goop website. All you need to do is shell out $55.00 for a bottle of 60 pills- and take them consistently twice a day for 2 months to see results.
Gwyneth Paltrow is now Peddling $55 Female Libido Boosting Pills Called D.T.F.
The ingredients in D.T.F. (which Goop is ridiculously proud of naming such by the looks of all their tongue-in-cheek innuendos) include fenugreek extract, claimed to be “clinically shown” to support healthy sexual arousal and desire in women along with Shatavari, described as a “traditional female health adaptogen” and saffron extract (likely there to justify the price).
While Paltrow and her Goop-y gals are adamant the supplement REALLY helps (don’t at me, the all-caps were used on her Instapost), the small print in their site admits “The website’s statements have not been evaluated by the [US] Food and Drug Administration. Nor is the product intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.”
So, what does a sex expert with 25 years’ experience psychosexual and relationship therapy think of D.T.F.?
Not much.
Jessica Leoni, while applauding Gwenth and Goop for doing a great job when it comes to helping women “explore their sexuality more fully in lots of imaginative ways,” also told HuffPost UK, “marketing a new sexual health supplement, which says it will shift your sex drive into gear is a step too far.”
Leoni said there is no clinical evidence that D.T.F.’s ingredients really do boost a woman’s libido and said she’d “want a bit more scientific evidence before I invest in a supplement.”
Worried that it would take two full bottles before the product is supposed to start working, Leoni suggested some much cheaper options for women to get their groove back.
“Start by communicating better with your partner, shaking up your sexual routine and looking at news ways to add fresh impetus to your physical stimulation. And if you are looking for an immediate adrenalin rush, a scientifically proven natural high, I would suggest going for a run. You will feel 10 times better afterwards, it won’t cost £40, and the feeling of wellness it inspires will enhance your desire for sex.”
Don’t mind me- just slipping into my jogging shoes…
