‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers show that while the writing may have taken a dip in the last few years, we still tune in every day and it was interesting to me how they can still keep us hooked.

However, I had someone explain it to me in terms that I better understood. Sports. Even if your sports team is down in the dumps, you tune in every chance you can for that moment where they turn things around and redeem themselves. Plus, you can talk about how great they were back in the day.

It was an interesting way to think about it and one that definitely made sense to me. This has become especially true lately as we’ve given the show a lot of criticism and mocked it for the writing Emmy they just won, but at the bottom of our hearts, this is still our team and the one we cheer for day in and day out.

Another reason, and I know it’s cliche to say, but nostalgia I’m sure plays a big part. How often do you hear, “I used to watch it with my grandmother?” It’s this nostalgia and remembering the “good ole days” that remind us of how great it was and still can be, even if they’re on a bit of a losing streak right now.

Whether it’s losing actors or turning their existing characters into weird, unknown oddities, it seems like they’re just fumbling everything late. However, it’s just a slump, and we’ll still be there to root for them to get back out of it.

Remember, we still have the cornerstone characters Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott)! That’s like still keeping your quarterback while the rest of the team changes around them. As long as you have them, you feel like you can still win.

So, while we may have taken some shots and criticized the show lately, it’s still “our” show. They can get back out of this, right?
