Trista Sutter has opened up on how she has been feeling amid her husband Ryan Sutter’s diagnosis and battle with Lyme disease.

Ryan, for his part, had been bedridden for a prolonged period as doctors could not pinpoint the cause of his illness. But given that they have managed to find out the root of the problem, Ryan has been making some improvements. Most recently, he graduated as a firefighter and came second overall in his programme.

Having said all that, the road to getting there was not easy. During an interview on the Almost Famous podcast, Trista said: “I try to look at the positive. It’s definitely a good thing to have answers. Not knowing is so, so difficult. Those answers come with so many more questions. It’s actually difficult.”

One of the reasons why Trista has been finding it difficult has been the reality that this may be a lifelong battle. The duo have been married for 17 years and therefore have a strong bond together. This has been compounded by the fact that they share kids together.

As such, Trista has been left wondering what she should be doing. She added: “It will be a lifetime diagnosis…It’s been hard to see him struggle because he’s such a strong human in general. He doesn’t share that with everyone, so it’s just hard to see the person you love most in the world feeling like crap.”

Despite the difficulties she has been going through, Trista has been grateful because it could have been so much worse. Ryan has managed to at least hold down a job for now and is looking forward to becoming the best firefighter he can be.

Trista is hoping that this can kickstart Ryan’s recovery in being able to return to who he was prior to his illness. She continued: “I want him to spend time with our family and make memories. When you don’t feel good, it just takes away from life. I’m not doing great, and not just about him.

Let us hope that Trista finds the strength to overcome her difficulties. And we wish Ryan the best with his recovery.
