Netflix’s ‘Army of the Dead’ may be a fun zombie movie, however, how much of it could theoretically be possible? Could just one zombie manage to turn most of Las Vegas into the walking dead? Well, yeah, maybe…
You may not have known, but there are actual zombie apocalypse scientists who study theoretical zombie outbreaks using a special mathematical formula called the ‘S I R’ (Susceptible, Infected, Removed) and can make educated guesses on the infection rate based on population.
“In Army of the Dead, just one zombie manages to turn most of Las Vegas into the shambling undead. But that could never happen to your city, right? RIGHT?!?
Luckily for you, scientists love to prepare for the zombie apocalypse and have some answers. We scoured the hordes (get it?) of zombie studies out there — which often use the same mathematical models that predict actual pandemics — and assembled the factors that scholars say would determine a city’s zombie survivability. We then picked five cities that would be relatively well situated when the zombies come. (Spoilers: Vegas didn’t make our list …)”
Using Real Models To Predict A Zombie Outbreak – Would It Be Similar To Netflix’s ‘Army Of The Dead’?
While I don’t think that we need to worry about a zombie apocalypse any time soon, you can rest easy at night knowing there are legitimate scientists out there who are studying this. In the meantime, if you’re really worried about it, move to Montana apparently. It seems like they’re pretty prepared.
