The Duchess of Sussex just got caught in a major lie as the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby himself has confirmed that he did not marry Meghan and Prince Harry three days before their royal wedding back in May of 2018. Here’s what you need to know.
British Royal Family News: Meghan Markle Just Got Caught In A Major Lie
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex claimed they were married three days prior to their televised wedding ceremony in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, but according to the Archbishop, that is simply not true.
In an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Archbishop Justin Welby confirmed it’s his signature on the Sussexes’ wedding certificate. He also confirms the couple’s legal wedding took place on Saturday, May 19, 2018, the day viewers around the world tuned in for the ceremony.
“The legal wedding was on the Saturday,” he said. “I signed the wedding certificate which is a legal document and I would have committed a serious criminal offence if I signed it knowing it was false.”
He added: “I had a number of private and pastoral meetings with the Duke and Duchess before the wedding.”
Yet, Meghan told Oprah during their bombshell of an interview in March, You know, three days before our wedding, we got married. No one knows that. But we called the Archbishop and we just said ‘look, this thing, this spectacle, is for the world, but we want our union between us’.”
The Duchess of Sussex also told Oprah: “The vows that we have framed in our room are just the two of us in our back yard with the Archbishop of Canterbury… just the three of us.”
So far Meghan Markle has not made any additional comments about the claims.
