Taylor Nolan had shockingly received death threats in response to the controversy in which her previous tweets on fat-shaming and alleged homophobia had resurfaced.

The comments had gotten so bad, including death threats, that Taylor turned off the comments function. Despite the horror of it all, Taylor did not respond in kind. Instead, she offered another apology in an attempt to cool down this fire. In a post on her Instagram, she said: “Yesterday’s response was a reaction and not an apology. I’m sorry I didn’t take a second to come correct.
“I owe you all an apology. There is no question or defending that every word of my old tweets are harmful, wrong, triggering and incredibly upsetting to the communities that I identify with and that I support. I’m so sorry to the folks that were triggered and re-traumatized by seeing the hurtful words from my past.” It is important to realise, however, that Taylor’s posts had come when she was only ten years old.
Although that is not being peddled as an excuse, it does give some context to the time in which she made those comments. But Taylor, being as she is, still held her hands up. She said: “Those words were a way for me to deflect from my own internalized racism, misogyny and ignorance. Still, they cause harm, and I am accountable [for] that harm.”
And with that in mind, Taylor has made efforts to rectify her wrongs. She has been doing some work behind the scenes with people from a variety of backgrounds and beliefs. It is that to which Taylor is seeking to focus on. She continued: “I didn’t need anyone to call those things out to me to know they were wrong. I’ve been doing that work on my own for the last ten years, and it’s the same work I do today and the same work I will continue doing for the rest of my life. I’m sorry I wasn’t better then, but I am here now and will always be.” It is good to see Taylor coming clean, and let us hope that she can learn from her mistakes by thinking before she posts something.
