Hugh Grant has joked about his former girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley’s new lockdown hobby of making marmalade in an attempt to tease her over co-starring in a third Paddington film.
Hugh Grant Laughs At Former Girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley And Her New Marmalade Hobby
This all comes amid Elizabeth tweeting herself with two jars of marmalade with the caption: “Lockdown has turned me into a demented housewife: 47 jars of marmalade are nestling in my larder, and another sack of Seville oranges await me.”
And Hugh was so amused by the post that he could not help himself as he responded immediately with the following: “Paddington 3.” in reference to the cartoon character that loves marmalade. The two had always been very close. After all, they had been dating for 13 years before both of them decided to call it quits in 2000.
But that disappointment did not dampen a friendship that has continued to flourish. In an interview with The Jess Cagle, Hugh revealed how the two are like a family: “We’re like brother and sister. I think it’s partly because we went from zero to somewhere together, and we went through terrible years at the beginning when neither of us had any work, living in a tiny flat. It was quite bonding.”
And this is despite Hugh admitting that he had been unfaithful during his time with Liz as he cheated on her with a prostitute. When addressing it, he said: “I didn’t try to say, ‘I’ve got this psychological problem. I just said, ‘I did it.’ You know in life what’s a good thing to do and a bad thing to do. I did a bad thing.”
And yet, Liz has forgiven him as she also sees the actor as a long life friend. When speaking to the What Happens Live With Andy Cohen show in 2015, she said: “He remains my best friend to this day, but … he really used to annoy me. “I love him, but he’s very annoying.”
She then told The Times how Hugh makes her laugh: “I have certain friends and family who make me howl with mirth: my sister, my son and my ex, Hugh, being the chief culprits.” The two can really be classed as best friends forever.
