Netflix ‘The Crown’ Season 4 spoilers say that many of the stars of the Netflix series do not believe that the show needs a disclaimer to let viewers know that the show is indeed based on fiction and not on fact.
Actor Josh O’Connor, who plays Prince Charles on the hit series about the British Royal Family, says that a disclaimer would be nothing short but “outrageous.” Here’s what you need to know.
Some critics have slammed The Crown saying it is an unfair and oftentimes misleading portrayal of the real people and events that it depicts.
Netflix ‘The Crown’ Season 4: Josh O’Connor Thinks A Disclaimer Of The Show Is Nothing Short Of Outrageous
As a matter of fact, the UK government’s Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden had even called on Netflix to add a disclaimer to the series just so it can emphasize that it’s a work of fiction. But not everyone thinks that’s necessary.
Actor Josh O’Connor, who plays Prince Charles in The Crown Season 3 and 4, says viewers are intelligent enough to know that they are not watching a documentary about the royal family.
“We were slightly let down by our culture secretary, whose job it is to encourage culture,” O’Connor said during an interview with the Los Angeles Times for The Envelope: The Podcast.
“In my opinion, it’s pretty outrageous that he came out and said what he said. Particularly, in this time when he knows that the arts are struggling and they’re on their knees, I think it’s a bit of a low blow.”
He also said that he’s firmly against the disclaimer proposal.
“My personal view is that audiences understand,” he explained. “You have to show them the respect and understand that they’re intelligent enough to see it for what it is, which is pure fiction.”
So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter.
