’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers Spoilers finds that Sumit Singh’s Mom absolutely hates his American fiance Jenny Slatten. We thought it was because of Indian Culture and how conservative it is, we even speculated that it was because Jenny is past child-bearing age and Sumit’s Mom wanted him to be the first to bear her grandchildren.
(This would make sense, seeing as Sumit’s brother, Ahmit, is younger than he is.) But that is not the entire truth and it looks like the show is not giving us the entire story anytime soon, however according to some internet sources, there is actually a pretty sad story behind the family’s hatred of Jenny – even though it has nothing to do with her directly, or even personally, rather it was because of events that no one could help.
’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers: The real reason Sumit’a Mom hates Jenny
As it turns out, there was once a third sibling to the Singh clan, and that sibling was a daughter. It is not said when she died, but the cause was jaundice, I am assuming that this happened when the child was still a youngster, possibly a newborn.
Sumit’s Mother felt cheated out of a daughter by this death, and bonded heavily with Sumit’s first wife thinking that they would be together forever but was heartbroken when they divorced. Hence why Jenny’s presence is an added slap in the face, she reminds her of the daughter that she was robbed of.
Also, it seems that Jenny is older than Sumit’s Mom? I thought they were the same age but apparently not. So that adds another layer, she literally cannot relate to the woman her son is with.
But does that really justify all the hate that Jenny gets from her Mother-in-law? No. It seems that a lot of pressure has been put on Sumit, family-wise so in the end he ended up cracking and rebelling in an entirely different way.
Sometimes the loss of someone we love can cause us to to project what we wanted onto someone else and it looks like that’s what happened with Sumit’s marriage, he was expected to provide his Mom with the daughter she didn’t get to have and that is why she holds a grudge against Jenny because she can’t call her daughter, especially if Jenny is the older one, at least not according to their culture.
Honestly, not sure how prevalent therapy is in India but that whole family could benefit, just sayin’. Statly tuned!!!
