’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers indicate that Kalani Faagaata Pulaa has decided to speak to an actual divorce attorney because she says that she and hubby Asuelu Pulaa have gone back to their regular cycle of BS. One day they’ll get along just fine, and one day they won’t, she’s tired of the inconsistency so she’s decided to make sure that divorce is still an actual option.
One bit of tea that we learned on this episode that we didn’t learn on the past two episodes was that one of the reasons that she hasn’t divorced Asuelu yet was because on the K-1 visa that she had her Dad, Low, co-sign with her because she didn’t meet the income requirements and according to the paperwork they are financially responsible for Asuelu for the next 10 years.
’90 Day Fiancé’ Spoilers: Or so they thought.
Low had to go back to California for work, but facetimed into the appointment and met the lawyer with Kalani. What they found out both shocked and horrified them because they found out that under president Trump the rule changed, instead of being obligated for just 10 years, any sponsors of any immigrants are now responsible for the lifetime of said immigrant, unless they get deported, die, or become an American Citizen.
This means that if Asuelu ever seeks government assistance on anything, then the federal government could come back and demand reimbursement to Low and Kalani for any assistaance that they provided to Asuelu.
Kalani says that when she first had her Dad sign the papers and they first got married that she was so in love that she never even considered divorce, but now upon looking back, she says that she was stupid about a lot of things. (Love is blind.)
However, the lawyer did say that it would be hard for the federal government to enforce the lifetime provision change because when they signed the document, it was only for 10 years. The lawyer said that Kalani actually needed to consider what was best for her children, Low is all for them staying married because I guess if he’s on the hook financially he wants to make sure that they stay together.
This is only if Asuelu intends on staying in the US though, if he goes back to Samoa, which Kalani was counting on, then they’re both off the hook. Miracles can happen, but it looks unlikely in this case. Stay tuned!!!
