Spoilers reveal that June 7th was the big night for the soaps as the 51st Daytime Emmys aired on CBS. The show was hosted by Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Fraiser and Nischelle Turner. We all have our favorite shows that we hope will win and actors and actresses we root for. So, hopefully, you weren’t disappointed.

Dick Van Dyke Won For Outstanding Guest Performance On ‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers

The show started by awarding the Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama. Robert Gossard, who plays Marshall Ashford on General Hospital, won.

Gossard was genuine and humble, two things everyone wants to see in a winner. Next, Courtney Hope, who plays Sally Spectra on The Young and the Restless, won.

Hope dedicated her Emmy to all the mothers who lost a child. Her big storyline this year was that her character had a devastating miscarriage. Her performance was heartbreaking.

Dick Van Dyke won for Outstanding guest performance in a daytime drama for his stint on Days of Our Lives. He became the oldest Daytime Emmys winner, which was a sweet moment.

General Hospital won for best writing team, which was a surprise. GH has been experiencing some difficulty in that department and was criticized for its merry-go-round of writers.

As an avid fan of GH, it should be said that the writing was hit or miss this past year. But the acting is always superb.

'General Hospital' Spoilers: Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor) COMES BACK To Haunt Gladys Corbin (Bonnie Burroughs)

GH won Best Directing team, and Johnny Wactor, who played Brando Corbin on the show, was mentioned in the acceptance speech. Wactor died on May 25th this year. Johnny was senselessly killed during a robbery as he saved his co-worker’s life in the process.

On a lighter note, it was fun to see Kelly Clarkson win for Best Daytime Talk Series. She gave a shout-out to General Hospital and said everyone at that table knew how to have a good time.

‘General Hospital’ Spoilers Won For Outstanding Daytime Drama

Melody Thomas Scott, who plays Nikki Newman on The Young and The Restless, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Thorsten Kaye, who plays Ridge Forrester on ‘The Bold of the Beautiful’, won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a daytime drama series.

Michelle Stafford, who plays Phyllis Summers on ‘The Young and the Restless’, won for Outstanding Lead Actress, which was well deserved, as she had some killer scenes this year.

General Hospital won for best show. For this biased fan, it was a fantastic surprise. However, some former fans stopped watching during the Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) and Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Grey), Pikeman, and Hook Killer storylines. But no one can deny the powerhouse actors and actresses that GH possesses.

What’s interesting is that the head writing team responsible for the win was missing in action; Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Conner were fired. Some of the notable stories GH had this year included the Greenland adventure, Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) and Trina Robinson’s (Tabyana Ali) romance, Heather Webber (Alley Mills) meeting her daughter, Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl), and the perpetual SEC storyline.

GH has won the Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Daytime Drama four years in a row, which is quite impressive. General Hospital’s first win for a Daytime Emmy was 1981 during the Luke and Laura phenomenon.
