Meghan Markle has chosen not to go with Prince Harry to the UK. The 10th Anniversary Invictus Games event will be a Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Meghan “Doesn’t Want The Drama”
However, Meghan Markle will fly from the US to Nigeria to meet Harry immediately after the event. It is said that the couple will participate in the country’s “cultural activities.”
The Duchess has only made brief trips to Britain since she and Harry stepped down as working royals. She’s made it clear that she does not intend to return.
Sources close to Meghan claim she is “done” with the UK and “doesn’t want the drama.” The former actress feels that her appearance would be met with hostility, and she doesn’t want to be involved with the royal family.
There were reports earlier this month that Kate Middleton extended an olive branch and invited Harry, Meghan, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, for a visit, but Meghan declined.
Royal author Richard Fitzwilliams said that Meghan won’t attend the upcoming Invictus event because she doesn’t want her presence to overshadow the message of the Invictus Games.
Fitzwilliams claims that Meghan’s decision not to go is not a surprise, as the royal family has lingering bitterness and resentment toward her.
However, it’s not precisely unwarranted, as she did accuse the royals of being racists in her March 2021 Oprah interview with Harry and through her mouthpiece, Omid Scobie.
The British tabloids would also have a field day with Meghan Markle if she arrived in the UK. The press would likely focus on Harry and Meghan’s behavior toward the royal family, and they’d be correct in doing so.
Harry Wants To See His Father While He’s In The UK
The Duchess is said to want to preserve the message of the service, so she’s opted out of the equation. Harry will give a reading at the event, and actor Damian Lewis is set to read the Invictus poem.
The Invictus Games is the Duke’s best and most genuine achievement. The games give sick, wounded, and injured veterans an opportunity to compete in sports-related activities, which provides them with a sense of community and boosts confidence.
The initial Invictus Games were held in 2014 in London. Since then, they have been held in Orlando, Toronto, Sydney, Hague, and Dusseldorf. There is talk that the 2027 Invictus Games will circle back to the UK once again.
The last time that Harry returned to Britain was in February for a short visit with King Charles after it was revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer.
It is reported that Harry wants to see his father while he is in the UK. However, Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on whether that is possible.
The King’s diary is very full at the moment, so it is still up in the air. The day that Harry will be in Britain is a very busy day for the monarch. He is set to meet with the Prime Minister and will attend the first garden party of the summer. It seems like the royal rift is set to continue well into the future.
