‘The Young And The Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers show that in this difficult position, Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), who is taking on the role of sponsor for Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), can find himself on the verge of chaos.
Jack is the rock Nikki relies on since he overcame his own painkiller addiction. Nikki is already struggling with guilt over Seth’s (Brian Gaskill) relapse.
Nikki finds in Jack not just a sponsor but also someone who understands the challenges of addiction and the difficult road to recovery. Even though Jack seems like a reliable source of support, when Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) finds out the truth, his stress levels can explode.
Victor has a natural mistrust of Jack, so learning that he has been secretly helping Nikki might exacerbate their tense past. Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John), the Abbotts’ constant source of drama, might cause further problems, which would worsen Jack’s situation.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Is Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) Dangerously Flirting With Relapse?
Thoughts of Jack’s former addiction might become a persistent temptation, particularly if he becomes involved in the commotion following Jordan’s (Colleen Zenk) escape. One possible plot point is for Jack’s injuries to be caused by a dramatic occurrence, which would serve as the ideal cover for a future relapse into painkiller use.
The concern that remains is if Jack is on the verge of a relapse that might show itself as erratic conduct. He could make decisions that put his relationship with Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) in danger or even put Jabot in danger as he teeters on the brink.
Though he may seem strong, Jack is vulnerable too and might experience a relapse, similar to what Seth and others are going through. If the story goes in this manner, Nikki may start to feel responsible for Jack’s rekindled addiction, which would make her more prone to temptation.
The plot might, in an unexpected turn of events, intensify to the point where Jack and Nikki, high on drugs and booze, start acting rashly and wind up having an unexpected meeting.
