‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that Brighton Hertford, who played Bobbie Spencer‘s (Jackie Zeman) little girl, B.J. Jones came to Bobbie’s funeral as another character.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: B.J. Gave Her Cousin Maxie a Life-Saving Miracle
B.J. was Tony Jones‘s (Brad Maule) and Tania Roskov‘s (Hilary Edson) daughter. She was born in 1986. Tania named her daughter Barbra Jean (B.J.) after “Bobbie” Spencer, who helped Tania give birth to her.
A car hit Tania in 1987, which resulted in her death. Tony and Bobbie married, and Bobbie adopted B.J. as her own daughter. B.J. was played by the child actress from 1986 to 1994.
In a shocking move, G.H. depicted the tragic storyline where a drunk driver caused a school bus accident, rendering B.J. brain-dead.
During this time, Maxie Jones ( then played by Robyn Richards, now played by Kiersten Storms) was dying in the hospital of Kawasaki disease and needed a heart transplant.
Maxie’s parents, Frisco Jones (Jack Wagner) and Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner), were praying for a miracle to save their daughter.
B.J.’s parents, Tony and Bobbie, decided to give Maxie B.J.’s heart so she could live. It was one of the most heartbreaking stories in (GH) history.
It took some encouragement for Tony to convince Bobbie that donating B.J.’s heart was the right thing to do. “You know what massive brain damage means. You’re a nurse. B.J. is dead. Maxie is dying. We don’t have time to debate this. Accept it before another little girl dies.”
The words were harsh, but the truth was as clear as a bell. Maxie was dying, and there was no time left. They had to do what was right.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: A Bittersweet Moment
When Maxie’s parents found out that there was a heart for little Maxie, they were relieved. What they didn’t know was that the heart belonged to another little girl who was special to them, B.J.
B.J.’s death devasted the adults in the situation. It was not so much trading one little girl’s life for another but doing what was necessary to honor and preserve these lives. The story was critically acclaimed.
In a riveting and poignant moment, Tony placed his ear on Maxie’s chest to listen to his daughter’s heartbeat. He grieved for the loss of his daughter but was also proud that his daughter saved Maxie’s life. It was a bittersweet moment.
Bobbie and Maxie would spend time with each other every year for B.J.’s birthday after that. Now that Bobbie and Jackie are both gone, Brighton Hertford returns to the show to play journalist Angela Brighton. Bobbie had been helping Angela with a story about women who had been victims of trafficking.
It is a fitting send-off for Bobbie, who wanted to help any woman she could who was involved with trafficking and prostitution.
Hertford’s impressive film and T.V. biography include, “The Work and the Glory: American Zion,” “The Parent Trap,” “Finding Kelly,” “Leave it to Beaver,” “Everwood,” NYPD Blue,” “The Ellen Show,” and “7th Heaven.” It was beautiful to see Brighton on the show during Bobbie and Jackie Zeman’s tribute as G.H. came full circle.
