A former Olympic snowboarder and YouTuber, Trevor Daniel Jacob, 30, from Lompoc, has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for obstruction of justice. Jacob intentionally crashed his single-propeller plane to generate content for his social media, facing a maximum sentence of 20 years.

The incident took place on November 24, 2021, and Jacob posted the pre-planned crash on YouTube on December 23, titled “I Crashed My Airplane.” The video showcased Jacob flying from Lompoc City Airport to Mammoth Lakes, claiming an engine failure 30 minutes into the flight.

The footage captured him leaping out with a parachute as the plane crashed. Jacob intentionally delayed reporting the crash to the National Transportation Safety Board for two days, misleading them about the crash location. He later used a helicopter to remove the wreckage from the Los Padres National Forest on December 10, 2021, before dismantling and disposing of it.
During sentencing, Judge Walter ordered Jacob to surrender by January 29. Jacob expressed humility in a statement relayed by his lawyer: “This experience has been so humbling.”
