Prince Harry‘s upcoming 2025 Invictus Games is in turmoil. Two senior executives have been “transitioned out,” and the event is threatened due to poor budgeting.
Canada Will Host The 2025 Invictus Games
For those who don’t know, the Invictus Games is a multi-sport event—disabled veterans who have been wounded, injured, or sick participate. Prince Harry founded the event in 2014. It helps veterans heal physically and psychologically.
This year, Dusseldorf, Germany, hosted the Invictus Games. It had been postponed for three years due to COVID.
The Invictus Games will be in Vancouver and Whistler in Canada in February 2025 and will involve winter sports this time. The list of activities will include Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, and skeleton and wheelchair curling.
Meghan lived in Toronto while filming ” Suits” and is familiar with the area. Harry and Meghan reportedly love Canada and look forward to going in 2025. But there have been some recent developments that cast a pall over the Games.
Unfortunately, the morale of the staff and volunteers participating in the upcoming event is waning, as there has recently been some uproar and major shake-ups in employment.
Queen Elizabeth gave Peter Lawless the Diamond Jubilee Medal. However, Mr. Lawless is said to have left his job abruptly, or as a source close to the Invictus Games said, he “transitioned out,” which is a polite way of saying that he was fired.
Invictus Games 2025 is Supposedly Not on Track with Expenses
He is “no longer an employee” but “still an ambassador.” Also, Chief Commercial Officer Bill Cooper left in October. He allegedly said that it was a “big mistake” to let go of him.
There have been moves made that will likely overshadow the games. This is supposed to be an excellent event for disabled veterans, giving them a chance to shine.
Whether the Invictus Games is hunting for a new CEO and Chief Commercial Officer is unknown. The event needs better organization if it is to run smoothly.
Invictus must pay for any costs incurred by the Duke, Duchess, and the Games. The Administrations of Canada and British Columbia are reportedly spending a whopping $30 million to host the Games.
Unfortunately, the cost of the event has been growing since Harry and Meghan require extra security to be able to participate.
However, they were made to pay for their security this past year. German authorities were not about to pay that hefty bill.
Even with the extra money being spent, the Invictus Games are nowhere near close to being within the budget for the 2025 ceremonies.
Good Publicity Will Enhance The True Meaning of The Games
Harry and Meghan are also said to be a distraction from the actual event. This disruption is due to their ongoing, never-ending family drama.
A spokesperson for the Invictus Games denies any budgetary issue, although the rumors are swirling.
In 2014, before Harry started dating Meghan, Harry, William, and their father attended the event, which was good for the publicity surrounding the Games.
However, Harry and Meghan have caused much controversy for the Games. In recent years, as they only seem to attract negative press.
Hopefully, the couple can turn things around and make the 2025 Invictus Games more about the event and less about them.
