The memoir written by John Stamos, “If You Would Have Told Me” came out the same day as Britney Spears’s bombshell memoir, “The Woman in Me,” and it has been a bit overshadowed by the “Toxic” hitmaker’s new book—just a tad.
The Last Chapter of John Stamos’s Memoir
In the last chapter of Stamos’s memoir, he talks about the day he found out about Bob Saget’s death last year after suffering blunt head trauma.
Saget had been found dead in his hotel room in his Ritz Carlton hotel room in Orlando, Florida. The coroner had determined that Bob accidentally hit his head on something, thought nothing of it, and went to bed.
That morning, John was driving with his son, and he received a call from his publicist, asking if he had heard from Saget. He had seen from various sources that the “Full House” star and comedian had passed.
Stamos tried texting Bob and did not receive a response, and Stamos started to feel uneasy understandably. A text then appeared from Candace Cameron Bure, who received a “weird DM” about his death.
Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo, confirmed that Bob had indeed passed. John hit the ground in the parking lot, with his knees slamming down on the asphalt, and he wailed.
He tried to muster up the composure, and finally, he got back in the car, drove his son home, and started making those dreaded calls. He called Dave Coulier and Lori Loughlin to give them the tragic news. Everyone was in shock.
In his memoir, John says he is “still not ready to accept that he’s gone” and “Not sure I ever will be.” Stamos learned from Bob that tomorrow is never promised.
John Stamos Talks About the Last Night He Saw Bob Saget
Earlier this week, Stamos was on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Fallon observed that the last chapter of John’s book was about Bob Saget. John said it was the “second hardest chapter to write.”
John recalled the last night he saw Bob. The Tonight Show host shared a photo of that night with John and Bob and John’s wife, Caitlin McHugh, and Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo.
Stamos explained, “That was the last night I saw him.” John expressed that you never know in life if and when it will be the last time you see someone. You should cherish your loved ones.
Stamos talked about that last dinner and said it was “calm” and “sweet.” He shared that he was happy that the two couples took their time.
“You’re always in a hurry in life, right? Oh, I gotta do this, I gotta do that. And you know, we stayed. When something like that happens, you kind of want to remember everything. What did we eat? What did we do? We ordered some cake, and we had some coffee. We stayed longer than we normally would have, you know? He continued, “So if you have the chance and you’re with someone you love and care about, stay and have the cake and have some coffee. It was a beautiful night. Stamos starts to choke up, “It’s hard without him.”
