This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 air strike on The World Trade Center in New York City. Unfortunately, Sleepy Joe skipped out when he should have been at one or more sites. Joe George
On September 11, 2001, Islamic terrorists connected to Osama bin Laden seized four commercial aircraft, and two calculatedly crashed into the World Trade Center.
Mr. President Needs More Coffee: Sleepy Joe Skipped Out on Commemorative 9/11 Event
A third plane flew to the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. The passengers and crew on the fourth plane bravely fought the terrorists, knowing their fate. The plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. On this day, almost 3,000 innocent individuals were killed.
The country was changed forever because of these attacks. The George W. Bush administration declared war, and American troops invaded Afghanistan.
This year, on September 11, 2023, President Joe Biden became the first president not to visit Manhattan, the Pentagon, or Shanksville, Pennsylvania, to pay homage to the Americans whose lives were lost that day. He was not even in Washington, DC, to host a memorial.
Biden spent the day at Joint Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, with service members and first responders in observance of the 9/11 anniversary.
Remembering 9/11
Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Douglas Emhoff, came to represent the administration and attended the 9/11 anniversary commemoration in Biden’s place.
The annual observance took place at the National September 11 Monument and Museum in lower Manhattan. The first lady, Jill Biden, paid her respects at the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon.
To this day, they are still working to identify the lives lost in the attack on US soil. Last week, the remains of two new victims resurfaced.
The ceremony focused on reading the names of those killed in the attack. The New York City Fire Department also added 43 names to a memorial wall to honor those who died on that terrible day in American history.
The first year that Biden was President, he visited all three sites of the 9/11 attacks. This year, he felt like he could miss the opportunity to attend the commemorations of the sites and put his Vice President in his place.
The previous Mayor of New York City, Rudy Giuliani, was also in attendance. Mr. Giuliani was New York City’s mayor during the 9/11 attacks.
Another former mayor of New York City, Mike Bloomberg, also came to pay homage and respects. Harris and Bloomberg spoke at the commemoration instead of Biden.
Biden Not Being at Commemoration Feels Odd
Biden did not give a speech about the 9/11 attacks until he showed up in Alaska, and his speech was delivered late in the day, not at the time of the original attacks on 9/11/2001.
Sadly, Biden could not be in New York City to observe the anniversary of 9/11. To many Americans, the slight just felt odd.
Commemorating 9/11 by visiting the memorial sites is a tradition. Many families of those who died or were involved in the attacks were outraged about the President being absent.
Another odd “Sleepy Joe” moment was when he had a press conference in Vietnam where he rambled and commented about needing a nap.
The White House staff abruptly halted his press conference. As for the 9/11 attacks, we all must take part in remembering, especially the President.
