On Saturday, 11th February 2023, Sam Smith received a lot of criticism for wearing a latex inflatable ensemble on the red carpet at the 2023 Brit Awards.
Sam Smith Bashed Again Following Satanic Grammy Performance By Wearing Inflatable Latex Outfit-‘WTF Is THAT?’
The artist showed up to the yearly musical festival wearing expansive trousers and shoulder guards. Smith, who uses “they/them” pronouns, finished off the single-colour outfit with black latex gloves and a pair of high-heeled shoes.
But rather than this being a sign of something novel and pushing the boundaries, the outfit received a lot of trolling. One person wrote: “Someone is desperate for attention…wow #samsmith,” while another person stated: “The humiliation continues for Sam Smith – WTF is THAT?”
Just a single week before the 2023 Grammys, Smith made the headlines with their look alongside Kim Petras. The outfit was a bright red Valentino dress, gloves, a veiled top hat and a sparkling cane.
They had been performing the song, ‘Unholy,’ but sparked backlash after they had dressed up as Satan. The backlash was so extensive that the performance was dubbed satanic. Meanwhile, Senator Ted Cruz went on to refer to it as something ‘evil.’
No matter what the critics have voiced concerning Smith, the vocalist has eventually accepted their physical appearance following a life-long battle with body dysmorphia. People with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) are highly worried flaws in their body, even though these imperfections are usually barely recognizable to those around them.
It is important to note that this condition is not a manifestation of vanity or excessive self-centredness. It can have a major negative influence on an individual’s life, causing immense distress. But that is something Smith has now overcome.
Their following comments confirmed as much: “I’m happier in my own skin on ‘Gloria.’ I feel liberated, released from pressures I felt when I was young. My mom says that, as I’ve got older, I’ve stopped caring what people think as much. She tends to be right.”
