One of the Nerdforge YouTubers, Martina, has created a 3D-printed prosthetic finger to substitute one she lost in a table saw accident years ago. She explains the incident that happened, “Six years ago we were doing some home renovations and I was going to make this nice little shelf thing. It was going to be the last thing we did for the day and then boom, table saw accident. Suffice to say it was a zero out of 10 experience, would not recommend.”
Martina decided to spend some time using technology to replace the finger by designing an LED-lit glove that also included a functional prosthetic finger. Despite the fact that the loss of a digit hasn’t stopped her from creating a variety of impressive projects in the years since she did decide to spend some time doing so.
Nerdforge’s Martina Doesn’t Have A Pinky Finger… So She 3D Printed One!
Martina made the finger model specific to the size of her hand before affixing it to a sleeve that could be worn over her injured hand. With the exception of aesthetics, an improved wristband and backplate finish the construction. Of course, no cyberpunk prosthetic would be complete without glowing Lights.
An LED in the tip of the finger is powered by a 3V battery, adding functionality not found in traditional flesh-based fingers. The construction was finished with a final redesign for aesthetic reasons, and a paint layer that provided a metal-like surface.
The video is already up to nearly 3 million views and shows what kind of incredible things can be achieved at home now. Sure, she’s a pro, but anyone can 3D print the device that she did and use it!
What do you think? Can you believe what she was able to achieve and do you know anyone that could use something like this? Let us know in the comments below.
