A major advocate for LGBT rights has harshly criticised Craig David for his involvement in the World Cup in Qatar.

On Wednesday, 30th November 2022, the 25th MOBO awards, which took place in London, honoured the singer and rapper with an award for his exceptional contribution.
At the age of 41, the famous individual expressed that he was an advocate for those who were not visible or without a voice. It was revealed afterwards that he took part in a show in Doha on November 25th despite Qatar’s opinion of the LGBTQ+ community.
Peter Tatchell, who is now 70-years-old and is well-known for his involvement in LGBT social causes, asserted that the celebrity in question prioritized financial gain over his own morals.
In his comments, Peter said: “I love Craig David’s music but he has allowed himself to be used by the Qatar dictatorship to boost its international image. He’s failed to speak for the voiceless in Qatar: oppressed women, LGBTs and migrant workers.”
Singer Robbie Williams justified his decision to go ahead with his performance by asserting that it would be ‘hypocritical’ to not proceed. Williams argued that it would not be a wise decision to not put on a show due to possible human rights issues, since he had previously put on a show in countries with questionable leadership.
While that may have been the case, other stars have not seen it that way. Rod Stewart and Shakira decided to boycott it which is why Peter doubled down on his beliefs.
His following comments confirmed as much: “This is a sexist, homophobic, racist regime. He’s put money and greed before principles. Many fans will be gutted.”
This is something that David had to consider on his own terms. And after having weighed up the pros and cons, he decided that it was best for him to perform. Time will tell if he does end up regretting that decision.
